NATIONAL CERTIFICATION AS CHILD SAFETY EDUCATORS

radKIDs Instructors

SPRINGFIELD, MA (January 5, 2007) – 24 Western New England College students have earned national certification to teach the radKIDS Personal Empowerment Safety Education Program locally to children 5-12 years old and their families. They join a national network of 2,200 instructors currently teaching in 45 states and in Canada. The radKIDS ten-hour, family-centered safety education program emphasizes essential decision-making skills and physical resistance options to escape violence and harm and will be offered in the greater Springfield area starting in February.  Please see KIDS classes for information and registration.

Upcoming Instructor class begins Fall 2007

Course Description:This course provides a Learning Beyond the Classroom opportunity through a strong community service component. Initial class meetings will cover the philosophy of personal empowerment and safety of children through child and parent education. Consistent with recent concerns on child abduction and the cycle of violence, successful completion of this course will both educate and authorize students to instruct the elements of a national child safety effort, radKIDS.

Students will actively participate in a 24-hour seminar with executive director, Stephen Daley, successful students will be certified through radKIDS as an Instructor. Consistent with the community service module, students will be assigned in pairs throughout Western Massachusetts for the Community Outreach Program. An emphasis is placed on taking this valuable education into the community and instructing children and their parents on child personal safety.
