Making Music Lecture at Western New England College

Western New England College hosted a computer music lecture by Brad Garton on November 4 in Sleith Hall Auditorium. The lecture was titled: "Making Music = Math + Computers + Composing." Dr. Garton is a Professor of Music and Director of the Computer Music Center at Columbia University, which hosts of the leading computer centers in the world. During his presentation, he demonstrated the cutting edge techniques in which computers are changing how and what we create, drawing upon contemporary research in fields ranging from mathematics to medicine. Dr. Garton's current work includes focused research on the modeling and enhancement of acoustic spaces as well as the modeling of human musical performance on various virtual "instruments." Dr. Garton is the brother of Western New England College Director of College Relations and
Community Outreach and part-time Communications faculty member Brenda Garton.
