WESTERN NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING STUDENTS RECEIVE AWARDS AT THE NORTHEAST BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING CONFERENCE
SPRINGFIELD, MA Western New England College School of Engineering students Laura Wiseman of Glascow, Scotland, Rochelle Bogle of East Longmeadow, MA, Rebecca Sorci of Chicopee, and Charlene Humphrey of Hoosick Falls, NY won awards at the recent Northeast Bioengineering Conference in Philadelphia, PA. The four students submitted three papers to the conference and all four were accepted for presentation. In all, the conference had 60 oral presentations and 95 poster presentations by undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty representing biomedical engineering programs from Northeast, Mid Atlantic, and Midwest states. Wiseman, a biomedical engineering major, was awarded a third place finish for her oral presentation on "Experimental procedure to test the effects of vibration on vascular permeability." School of Engineering professor Judy Cezeaux was Wiseman's advisor for the project. Bogle and Sorci, both biomedical engineering majors, won third place for their oral presentation on "Evaluating the decision-making process through gait analysis in the treatment of cerebral palsy." Sponsored by the Shriners Hospitals for Children, School of Engineering professor Steven Schreiner was the advisor. Charlene Humphrey of Hoosick Falls, NY, a mechanical engineering major, received third place for her technical poster on "The design and fabrication of a closed loop steady flow system for the study of thermodilution." Professor Cezeaux was the advisor. Western New England College is a private, independent, coeducational institution founded in 1919. Located on an attractive 215-acre suburban campus in Springfield, Massachusetts, the College serves 4,600 students on its main campus and at 17 sites throughout the Commonwealth. Undergraduate and graduate programs are offered through the Colleges Schools of Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, and Law.
