Western New England College
Women's Soccer Coach
Ron Dias

One of the most successful coaches in New England, Ron Dias is starting his 11th season as head coach of the Western New England College women's soccer team in 2004.

Dias has a 131-72-5 record for an impressive 64.2 winning percentage. During his tenure, the Golden Bears have captured four Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournaments, appeared in three NCAA Division III Championships, and won one ECAC Division III Metro Championship.

Western New England College posted a 9-10-1 record in 2003 in what was suppose to be a rebuilding year. The Golden Bears roared down the stretch winning five of their last six matches. WNEC finished third in the conference during the regular season, but placed second in the GNAC Tournament.

In 2002, WNEC posted a 16-7 record for their eighth consecutive winning season and second highest win total in their 19-year history. The Golden Bears repeated as GNAC Tournament champions and participated in the NCAA Division III Championship for the third time in four years.

At the nationals, WNEC and host Bridgewater State battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw before the Golden Bears lost the match on penalty kicks.

Dias was voted the GNAC Coach-of-the-Year in 2002.

Dias directed Western New England College to records of 14-8-1 and 13-8-1 in 2001 and 2000, respectively.

Western New England College posted a 14-8-1 mark in 1999, captured the GNAC Tournament title, and became the first WNEC women's team to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship.

Two of Dias' former players - Molly Burke and Kate Brunelle - are ranked among the top 10 all-time NCAA Division III scorers. Another standout was Kristen Ogulewicz Cunningham who holds the NCAA Division III record for assists (30) in a season (1998).

Dias has been active in Youth Soccer for 27 years and his teams have participated in both state and regional championships. He also directs a successful coed summer soccer camp at the college.
