New England College BOB SKELTON RETIRES AS WRESTLING COACH AT WESTERN NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE AFTER 30 YEARS SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Citing health reasons, Bob Skelton has retired as the wrestling coach at Western New England College effective immediately. Skelton informed athletics director Mike Theulen of his decision on Friday (Nov. 12, 2004). Skelton started the wrestling program at Western New England College in 1974 and compiled a 402-256-7 record (61.0 winning percentage) in 30 seasons. A former president of the NCAA Division III Wrestling Coaches Association, Skelton coached one Olympian (Rodney Smith), 137 All-New England Division III wrestlers, 27 New England champions, 13 NCAA Division III All-Americans, and 33 Academic All-Americans. Skelton was elected to the NCAA Division III National Coaches Hall of Fame in 1997 and the WNEC Downes Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. Theulen also announced that assistant coaches Dwayne Dawson and Jeff Peterson would serve as co-head coaches for the remainder of the season.
