New England College Now in his fifth season as the Western New England College men's soccer coach, Erin Sullivan ranks among the top young coaches in the Northeast. He also is the second winningest coach in school history with a 38-36-10 record (51.2%). In 2003 Sullivan directed the Golden Bears to a 7-8-4 record, which included a 5-3-1 mark for fourth place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. His team ended the season with a 4-1-1 record in its last six games and advanced to the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament. Western New England College defeated Emerson College on October 25 by the score of 3-0 for the program's 300th all-time victory. Sullivan guided his squad to a 13-7-3 record in 2002 that was the third highest win total in the program's 37-year history. The Golden Bears also captured the regular season Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) title with a 7-2 mark, and advanced to the semifinals of both the GNAC and ECAC Division III New England Regional Tournaments. Western New England College completed a remarkable turnaround in Sullivan's second season in 2001. The Golden Bears posted a 14-8-1 record that was the second highest win total in the school history. Sullivan was voted the GNAC Coach-of-the-Year after WNEC finished second in the conference during the regular season and again at the post-season tournament. The Golden Bears also earned an invitation to the ECAC Division III New England Regional Tournament. In 2000, WNEC compiled a 4-13-2 record after dropping seven matches by a single goal. Sullivan is a 1996 graduate of Williams College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History. Sullivan was a standout keeper helping to lead the Ephs to the NCAA Division III Championship Final and a National Runner-up finish in his sophomore season. In 1995 Sullivan captained the Williams team that won the NCAA Division III Championship with a 17-0-2 mark. For his efforts, he was named a Regional first-team All America. Sullivan holds the top soccer coaching licenses in the United States including a USSF "A" license and the NSCAA Advanced National and Premier Diplomas. He is also an associate staff member for the NSCAA. Sullivan is the first full time coach for the men's soccer program since the end of the 1987 season. In 1999, he was an assistant coach at St. John's University, and his coaching background also includes stints as an assistant coach at Cornell University and Lafayette College. In the summer of 2002, Sullivan coached the Western Massachusetts Junior Pioneers Under-15 boys soccer team. The Jr. Pioneers, a youth development team for the Western Mass Pioneers professional team, compete in the United Soccer League's Super Y League. Sullivan also directs several camps and clinics throughout the Northeast. Sullivan is a native of Voorheesville, New York where he was a two-sport captain, All Colonial Council, and All Section 2 standout in soccer and basketball at Clayton A. Bouton High School. In 1990, Sullivan led the Blackbirds to the Section 2 and NYS Soccer Championship. He was also the starting goalkeeper on an undefeated Adirondack Region Team that won the Gold Medal in the 1991 Empire State Games. In addition to his coaching position, Sullivan also teaches in the Physical Education/Health and Recreation department at Western New England. He is currently enrolled in Western New England College's MBA Program. Sullivan, his wife Noelle,and their son Christian Matthew (born Aug. 31, 2003) reside in the City of Springfield.
