MICHAEL BARTOL NAMED GOLDEN BEARS' ASSISTANT COACH SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Feb. 10, 2004) Former Springfield College standout Michael Bartol has been named an assistant men's lacrosse coach at Western New England College. The Saratoga Springs, New York native will work primarily with the defensive unit. Bartol was a four-year letter-winner at defense and two-time captain of the Pride, and was an All-New England performer his junior season. He also participated in three NCAA Division III Championships, advancing to the national quarterfinals in 2001. Ñ Western New England College senior goalie Patrick Dabrowski (Baltimore, MD) has been named the 2003 Pilgrim League West Division Men's Lacrosse Co-Player-of-the-Year. Dabrowski led the league with a 66.8 save percentage that was ninth nationally among NCAA Division III players. He also recorded a 9.29 goals-against-average. Dabrowski shared the award with sophomore Louis Luchetti of Lasell College. Dabrowski also was selected to the Pilgrim League West Division All-Star Team with classmates Tim Cinque (Lynbrook, NY) and Dan Gildart (Portland, ME), and junior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD). Le Gette, an attack player, led the Golden Bears in scoring with 37 points (26 goals, 11 assists) while Cinque, a midfielder, was third with 35 points (14 goals, team high 21 assists). Gildart anchored the defensive unit that allowed only 8.82 goals a game. Cinque and Dabrowski also were selected to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division III All-Star Second Team while Gildart received an honorable mention on the NEILA squad. Dabrowski and Gildart made the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England All-Star First Team. Western New England College posted an 8-9 record this past spring after playing several nationally ranked teams. May 3, 2003 SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Ñ Springfield College used a strong second half to captured the Pilgrim League Tournament with a 14-4 victory over defending champion Western New England College. Senior Randy Milou (Ambler, PA) scored two goals and classmate Patrick Dabrowski (Baltimore, MD) made 17 saves for the visiting Golden Bears who ended their season with an 8-9 record. Senior Tim Cinque (Lynbrook, NY) contributed two assists. WNEC scored the last two goals of the second period to trail only 5-3 at half-time. The Pride exploded for six goals in the third quarter to break the contest open. Still, it was a fine effort for the Golden Bears who played one of their toughest schedules ever this spring. Ñ Defending champion Western New England College advanced to the championship game of the Pilgrim League Tournament with an 11-4 victory over visiting Babson College at Golden Bear Stadium. Western New England College clinched the Pilgrim League West Division title with a 13-9 win over visiting Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Senior Day at rainy Golden Bear Stadium. Senior Randy Milou (Ambler, PA) led the Golden Bears with five goals and two assists, passing the 100-point mark in the process. Milou now has 105 career points (77 goals, 28 assists). Junior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) added four goals and an assist while freshman Joe Cassani (Barre, VT) had two scores. Also playing their final regular season game were Tim Cinque (Lynbrook, NY) who had a goal and four assists, Patrick Dabrowski (Baltimore, MD) who made 16 saves, Dan Gildart (Portland, ME), and Nick Salvatori (Barre, VT) who had a goal and assist, including the game-winning score that broke a 7-7 tie with 2:22 remaining in the third period. Senior Nick Salvatori (Barre, VT) had a goal and assist as Western New England College lost a 16-3 decision at city rival Springfield College in a Pilgrim League game played under the Benedum Field lights. The Golden Bears (6-8) trailed 2-1 after the opening period and 5-2 at half-time before the Pride scored nine unanswered goals in the third quarter and the first two scores in the final stanza. Apr. 19, 2003 CASTINE, Maine Freshman Josh Platt (Syracuse, N.Y.) set a school record with 14 points (six goals, eight assists) as Western New England College remained undefeated in the Pilgrim League West Division with an easy 30-2 rout of host Maine Maritime Academy. Senior Randy Milou (Ambler, PA) scored a career high six goals to lead visiting Western New England College to an 11-3 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a battle of the top Pilgrim League West Division teams. Leading 5-2 at half-time, Western New England College broke the game open with five unanswered goals in the third period. Senior Randy Milou (Ambler, PA) and sophomore Pat Matthews (Middle Island, NY) each scored twice for the Golden Bears while freshman Brett Searing (Skaneateles, NY) added a goal and assist. Junior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) led WNEC with four goals while senior Randy Milou (Ambler, PA) had two goals and an assist. Senior goalie Patrick Dabrowski (Baltimore, MD) played another strong game finishing with 28 saves. WNEC took an early 1-0 lead on Le Gette's goal 4:50 into the game. Junior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) scored five goals and senior Randy Milou (Ambler, PA) added two goals and two assists to lead Western New England College to a 13-6 victory over New England College in the season opener for both teams at Springfield College's Benedum Field. Senior Tim Cinque (Lynbrook, NY) contributed a goal and three assists while senior Nick Salvatori (Barre, VT) and sophomore Patrick Matthews (Middle Island, NY) each had a goal and assist. Freshman Kevin Batson (Kennebunk, ME) scored a goal in his collegiate debut while junior Keller MacMath (Portland, ME) netted the first goal of his collegiate career. NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Weather permitting, Western New England College will open its 2003 season at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4 against New England College at Benedum Field on the campus of Springfield College. After compiling a 12-5 record, winning the Pilgrim League Tournament title, and playing in the school's first NCAA Division III Championship in 2002, second-year, coach John Klepacki has challenged his squad to continue to build a winning tradition at Western New England College. "The team played hard to establish themselves as contenders, but we cannot be happy just to compete. Hard work, dedication, and discipline are vital to the success of our team. Our goal is to return to the NCAA Championship," says Klepacki who was voted the Pilgrim League Coach-of-the-Year in his rookie season. Although leading scorers Pilgrim League West Division Player-of-the-Year Bill Locher (67 points) and All-American Kevin Savage (60 points) graduated, WNEC returns several talented performers led by senior Pilgrim League All-Star midfielder Tim Cinque (Lynbrook, NY) (49 points) and senior attack performer Randy Milou (Ambler, PA) (43 points). At midfield, junior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) (33 points) established himself as a top player while senior Nick Salvatori (Barre, VT) (11 points) proved to be a vital part of the offense. Junior Zach Miner (South Salem, NY) (11 points) made several key contributions down the stretch while sophomore Patrick Matthews (Middle Island, NY) (13 points) enjoyed a solid rookie season. Senior Patrick Dabrowski (Baltimore, MD) emerged as a top-notch goalie in his first season as a starter earning All-League honors. He had a 9.96 goals-against-average along with a 64.4 save percentage. The defense features senior Dan Gildart (Portland, ME) and junior Kevin Grealis (Agawam, MA).
