Annunciata now has 99 career points. WNEC remains undefeated at 3-0.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Senior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) scored four goals to lead Western New England College to a 14-5 victory over visiting Union College (N.Y.) in a non-league game.

Senior Patrick Matthews (Middle Island, NY) passed the 100-point mark in career scoring with two goals and an assist, which gave him 102 points.

Junior Joe Cassani (Barre, VT) and sophomore Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) also scored twice for the Golden Bears who improved their record to 2-0.

Western New England College led 7-5 after three quarters before breaking the game open with seven unanswered goals in the final period, including two by Annunciata in a 1:57 span at the 10:11 and 8:14 marks.

Freshmen Kelley Luchs (Glastonbury, CT) and Gary Schuldt (Yorktown Heights, NY) each scored their first collegiate goals while freshman Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) chipped in with two assists. Freshman goalie Chris Body (Newtown, CT) finished with 11 saves.

Senior Andy West (Salem, NH) led the Dutchmen (1-2) with two goals while junior Dan Myerow (Sudbury, MA) had a goal and three assists.

Western New England College out-shot Union by a 43-24 margin. The game started 90 minutes late due to a flat tire on the Union bus on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Sophomore Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) scored five goals and senior Patrick Matthews (Middle Island, NY) added two goals and two assists to lead Western New England College to a 13-3 victory over visiting Roger Williams University in the season opener for both teams.

Sophomore Brian Praetorius (Saugerties, NY) and freshmen Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH), Brody Savoie (Wilbraham, MA), and Tim Woodford (Southborough, MA) each scored their first collegiate goals.

Cofrin also had an assist, as did freshman Danny Tillis (Rutland, MA).

Senior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) and sophomore Jason Whitehouse (Gilmanton, NH) had the other goals for the Golden Bears.

Freshmen goalies Chris Body (Newtown, CT) (7 saves) and James Ells (Cheshire, CT) (6 saves) combined for 13 saves.

Roger Williams received two goals from senior Ross Baker (South Hadley, MA) and two assists from senior Chase St. Andre (South Hadley, MA). Senior goalie Ted Ryan (Norwell, MA) finished with 20 saves.

BRIAN CALANDRUCCIO NAMED ASSISTANT MEN'S LACROSSE COACH

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Former Springfield College captain Brian Calandruccio has been named assistant men's lacrosse coach at Western New England College. Calandruccio, a native of Baldwin Place, New York, was a four-year defenseman for the Pride. He served as a team captain last spring when Springfield posted a 13-4 record while winning the Pilgrim League Tournament and participating in the NCAA Division III Championship. Calandruccio received a Bachelor of Science degree in American Studies last May.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE AIMS FOR PILGRIM LEAGUE TOURNAMENT TITLE IN 2005

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Coming off its best season ever, Western New England College's men's lacrosse team hopes to challenge for the Pilgrim League Tournament title in 2005 with seven starters among its 18 returning lettermen.

Western New England College posted a 14-7 record last spring that was a school record for wins, breaking the old mark of 12 set in 2002. The Golden Bears captured the Pilgrim League West Division title with a 5-1 mark and placed second in the Pilgrim League Tournament.

WNEC capped its season by winning the ECAC Division III New England Tournament for the program's first ever post-season championship.

"This team has some much-needed explosive depth in the offensive end," says fourth-year coach John Klepacki. "Our defense came together as a unit during our fall scrimmages. The coaching staff is extremely excited about the potential of this group."

Heading the list of returnees is senior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) who led the team with 87 points (37 goals, 50 assists) in his first season. Annunciata, a transfer from Roger Williams was selected to the 2005 Face-Off Yearbook and Inside Lacrosse Pre-Season Division III All-America team.

The Golden Bears have another rising star in sophomore attackman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) who was named the Pilgrim League Rookie-of-the-Year after compiling 65 points (43 goals, 22 assists) that was second on the team.

Two other players to watch are senior midfielder Patrick Matthews (Middle Island, NY) who totaled 52 points (31 goals, 21 assists) a year ago and junior defenseman Kevin Batson (Kennebunk, ME).

Annunciata, Cherry, Matthews, and Batson all made the Pilgrim League All-Star Second Team last year.

The Golden Bears also feature sophomore twins Jason Whitehouse (Gilmanton, NH) at midfield and Justin Whitehouse (Gilmanton, NH) at defense.

Freshmen Chris Body (Newtown, CT) and James Ells (Cheshire, CT) are the top candidates for the starting goalie position.

Newcomers to watch include freshman attackman Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH), and freshmen midfielders Kelley Luchs (Glastonbury, CT), Brian Praetorius (Saugerties, NY), Brody Savoie (Wilbraham, MA), and Gary Schuldt (Yorktown Heights, NY).

Western New England College opens its season on Wednesday, March 2 against Roger Williams at Golden Bear Stadium.

After another home contest against Union (N.Y.) on Saturday, March 5, the Golden Bears travel to Sanford, Florida for games against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Sunday March 13 and McDaniel (Md.) on Wednesday, March 16.

SENIOR CJ ANNUNCIATA NAMED PRE-SEASON All-AMERICA BY INSIDE LACROSSE MAGAZINE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Western New England College senior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) received an honorable mention on the 2005 Inside Lacrosse Magazine Division III Men's Lacrosse All-America Team that was released Thursday (Dec. 17).

Annunciata, an attack player, led the Golden Bears in scoring last year with a school record 87 points (37 goals, 50 assists) in his first season on the squad. He was named to the Pilgrim League All-Star and Pilgrim League Academic Teams. A sport management major, he is a transfer from Roger Williams University.

With Annunciata helping to lead the way, Western New England College posted a 14-7 record that was a school record for wins, captured the Pilgrim League West Division title with a 5-1 mark, and placed second in the Pilgrim League Tournament.

The Golden Bears capped their most successful campaign by winning the program's first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Championship.

Western New England College opens its season against Roger Williams at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Golden Bear Stadium.

MARCO LE GETTE SELECTED TO PLAY IN USILA DIVISION III NORTH-SOUTH GAME

Le Gette and Kevin Grealis make NEILA East-West roster

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Western New England College co-captain Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) will end his career in fine fashion when he becomes the first individual in the program's 23-year history to play in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-Star Game on June 12 at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York.

A midfielder, Le Gette was honored as the Western New England College Coca-Cola Male Athlete-of-the-Year at the school's Spring Sports Banquet. He was voted the MVP of the ECAC Division III New England Tournament and named to the Pilgrim League All-Star First Team. He also received the men's lacrosse team Joel Castleman Coaches Award. Le Gette was third on the team in scoring with 63 points (53 goals, 10 assists) this spring. He finished his career with 140 points (108 goals, 32 assists). He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice on May 22.

Le Gette and senior defenseman/co-captain Kevin Grealis (Springfield, MA) also will participate in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division III East-West All-Star Game on June 5 at Harvard University in Cambridge.

In other news, WNEC freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) was voted the Pilgrim League Rookie-of-the-Year.

Cherry also was selected to the Pilgrim League All-Star Second Team along with juniors CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) and Patrick Matthews (Middle Island, NY), and sophomore Kevin Batson (Kennebunk, ME).

Annunciata, Batson, Cherry, juniors Pat Barone (Weymouth, MA) and Doug Collyer (Glens Falls, NY), and freshman Zack Sondrini (Pittsfield, MA) made the Pilgrim League Academic Team.

Grealis was the recipient of the WNEC unsung Hero Award while sophomore Justin King (Lebanon, ME) was the team's Most Improved Player.

Freshman Nick Fessenden (Newton, MA) led Babson with two goals while senior Tim Armenta (Kennebunk, ME) and junior Jared Connell (Yarmouth, ME) each added a goal and assist. Senior Brian Collins (Needham, MA) had the other goal. Junior goalie Dave Frascogna (Orchard Park, NY) finished with 11 saves.

WNEC (14-7) also established a school record for wins in a season, breaking the old mark of 13 set in 1996. The Golden Bears also won all three meetings with Babson this season.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Senior co-captain Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) scored four goals and junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) added two goals and two assists as lead top-seeded Western New England College rallied for a 10-6 victory over fourth-seeded Keene State College in a semifinal round game of the 2004 ECAC Division III New England Tournament.

Freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) chipped-in with two goals and an assist as the Golden Bears (13-7) tied the school record for wins previously set in 1996. Freshman goalie Matt Pendelbury (North Hunterdon, NJ) compiled 12 saves.

Keene State (11-7) jumped to a 4-1 lead in the second period before Annunciata scored with seven seconds remaining in the half to cut the margin to 4-2.

The Golden Bears then outscored the Owls 6-1 in the pivotal third quarter. Junior long stick middie Pat Barone (Weymouth, MA) had his first career goal at 8:24 to pull WNEC within one at 5-4, then Le Gette tied the contest 1:03 later. Cherry fired home what proved to be the game-winner at the 5:48 mark and hit the back of the net again 33 seconds later.

Junior Eric Mommie (South Windsor, CT) led Keene State with three goals while junior Meade MacKay (Stratham, NH) and freshman Sean Panora (South Windsor, CT) each had a goal and two assists. Junior goalie Eric Delisle (Amherst, NH) finished with 16 saves.

WNEC will host either second-seeded Babson or third-seeded Wheaton at 1:00 p.m. Sunday (May 9) in the championship game

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Junior co-captain Patrick Matthews (Middle Island, NY) had four goals and an assist, and classmate CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) added three goals and four assists to lead top-seeded Western New England College to an easy 15-3 victory over eighth-seeded UMass-Dartmouth in a quarterfinal round game of the 2004 ECAC Division III New England Tournament.

Freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) chipped-in with three goals and an assist while senior co-captain Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) contributed two goals (including the 100th of his career) and an assist.

With the victory, the Golden Bears improved their record to 12-7 that ties as the second highest win total in the program's 23-year history. (The 2002 squad went 12-5 in John Klepacki's first season as head coach.)

WNEC led 6-0 after the first period, 9-3 at half-time, and 12-3 after the third stanza. Sophomore Jeff Boudreau (Newton, MA) led the Corsairs (7-7) with two goals while senior Kevin Sawula (Northampton, MA) had two assists.

WNEC will host the semifinals and championship rounds of the tournament Saturday and Sunday. Pairings and game times will be announced.

Senior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) led the Golden Bears with three goals and two assists while junior Patrick Matthews (Middle Island, NY) also scored three times.

Freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) added two goals and three assists while junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) had two goals and an assist.

Freshman Matt Pendelbury (North Hunterdon, NJ) made 22 saves in a solid performance.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Senior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) scored the game-winner with 5.2 seconds remaining to lead Western New England College to a 9-8 victory over visiting Babson College in a semifinal round game of the 2004 Pilgrim League Tournament.

Juniors CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) and Patrick Matthews (Middle Island, NY), and freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) each had two goals and an assist for the Golden Bears while sophomore Brett Searing (Skaneateles, NY) had the other two scores.

WNEC (11-6) trailed 5-1 after the first period and 5-4 at half-time before Searing scored both of his goals in a 1:35 span early in the third quarter to put the Golden Bears ahead 6-5.

Babson sophomore Mike O'Connell (Dedham, MA) scored three goals, his last goal tying the contest with 1:22 remaining. Senior Tim Armenta (Kennebunk, ME) added two goals and an assist while senior Brian Collins (Needham, MA) contributed a goal and two assists.

Freshman Matt Pendelbury (North Hunterdon, NJ) made 11 saves for WNEC while junior Dave Frascogna (Orchard Park, NY) stopped 11 shots for Babson (7-7).

WNEC will play at Springfield in the Pilgrim League Tournament championship game at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (May 1).

NEWTON, Mass. — Junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) and freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) combined for 18 points as Western New England College ended its regular season on a winning note with a 20-7 victory over Lasell College in a Pilgrim League game.

Cherry scored six goals with two assists while Annunciata had two goals and six assists.

Senior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) added three goals and an assist while freshman Devin Howton (Olney, MD) contributed three goals.

The Golden Bears, under third-year coach John Klepacki, improved their record to 10-6.

WNEC also captured its third straight Pilgrim League West Division crown with a 5-1 mark.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Senior Paul Purdy (Brewster, NY) scored a career high 10 points with seven goals and three assists to lead No. 9 Springfield College to a 20-12 victory over Western New England College in a battle of Pilgrim League divisional leaders.

Sophomore Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, RI) also had a big game with three goals and four assists while freshman goalie Kyle Cloutier (South Hadley, MA) made 22 saves as the Pride improved its record to 10-3 and 5-0 in the Pilgrim League East Division.

With the score tied 6-6 at half-time, WNEC scored the first two goals of the third period (to cap a 5-0 run) for an 8-6 lead following a score by senior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) only 1:51 into the period.

Springfield then rattled off six unanswered goals in a 4:51 span, including three by Purdy, to break the contest open.

Le Gette finished with four goals for the Golden Bears while junior Pat Matthews (Middle Island, NY) enjoyed a career night with four goals and four assists.

Junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) chipped-in with two goals and an assist while freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) had two goals.

Western New England College is now 9-6 and 4-1 in the Pilgrim League West Division.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Western New England College freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) was selected the Pilgrim League Player-of-the-Week on Monday (April 19).

Cherry scored 11 points (8 goals, 3 assists) in three games with two goals and an assist in a win over Norwich, a career high four goals in a loss at No. 12 Amherst, and two goals and two assists in a victory over Massachusetts Maritime.

A criminal justice major, Cherry is third on the team in scoring with 34 points (23 goals, 11 assists). WNEC is 9-5 overall and 4-0 in the Pilgrim League.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England College remained tied for first place in the Pilgrim League after posting a 17-1 win over visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

The Golden Bears took a 7-0 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back in raising their record to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) led WNEC with three goals and four assists. Sophomore Joe Cassani (Barre, VT) and freshman Devin Howton (Olney, MD) each added three goals. Freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) contributed two goals and two assists.

Freshman Ryan LaChance (Brunswick, ME) scored his first collegiate goal 65 seconds into the fourth quarter.

The Buccaneers averted the shutout when freshman Mike Perry (Milton, MA) scored with 3:12 left in the contest.

WNEC will host Pilgrim League co-leader (and city rival) Springfield College Wednesday night. .

AMHERST, Mass. — No. 12 Amherst College broke open a close game by scoring six goals in the third period en route to a 13-7 victory over hardworking Western New England College.

WNEC (8-5) trailed 4-3 in the second quarter before the Lord Jeffs scored twice to take a 6-3 half-time advantage. Amherst outscored Western New England College 6-2 in the decisive third stanza to improve its record to 7-2.

Freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) led the Golden Bears with a career high four goals while junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) had another solid effort with three assists.

NORTHFIELD, Vt. — Western New England College scored seven goals in the first quarter en route to an 11-3 Pilgrim League victory over Norwich University.

Freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) led the Golden Bears with two goals and an assist while classmate Nick Doherty (Kennebunk, ME) scored twice. Junior Pat Matthews (Middle Island, NY) had three assists.

WNEC improved its record to 8-4 with its fourth consecutive win (and seventh in its last eight contests). The Golden Bears remain in first place in the league with a 3-0 mark.

Western New England College is tied for 12th in the latest New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) poll.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Freshman Brendan Whynot (Framingham, MA) scored four goals and had three assists - the first collegiate points of his career - to lead Western New England College to a 19-0 victory over visiting Maine Maritime Academy in a Pilgrim League game.

Senior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD), sophomores Joe Cassini (Barre, VT) and Justin King (Lebanon, ME), and freshmen Devin Howton (Olney, MD) and Paul Wienecke (Baltimore, MD) each added two goals apiece.

Freshmen Mike De Caro (Agawam, MA) and Zack Sondrini (Pittsfield, MA) also scored their first collegiate goals as the Golden Bears improved their record to 7-4 (2-0 Pilgrim League with their third consecutive victory.

Eleven players scored goals and 17 players compiled points as Western New England College recorded its first shutout since a 13-0 win over Curry College in 1995.

Maine Maritime remains winless at 0-5 (0-3 Pilgrim League).

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Senior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) scored three goals, including the game winner with 4:04 left in the game, to lead Western New England College to a tgrilling 10-9 victory over Union College.

The win avenged a 13-8 loss to the Dutchmen last year at Golden Bear Stadium.

Freshman goalie Matt Pendelbury (North Hunterdon, NJ) was outstanding in the net compiling 20 saves. Freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) continued his fine play with two goals and an assist. while junior Pat Barone (Weymouth, MA) scored his first career goal in the first period.

The first three periods ended in ties of 2-2, 5-5, and 7-7.

This was the third one-goal contest in the last four games for the Golden Bears who improved their record to 6-4.

CAPTAIN MARCO LE GETTE SELECTED THE WESTERN NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE MALE ATHLETE-OF-THE-WEEK

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Lacrosse captain Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) was honored Tuesday (April 6) as the Western New England College Male Athlete-of-the-Week.

Le Gette, a senior attackman, scored seven points (6 goals, 1 assist) in a 1-1 week. He had two goals, the second of which was his 100th career point, in a 7-6 double loss at Wesleyan University. Le Gette then scored four goals with an assist in a 16-7 victory at Babson College in the team's Pilgrim League opener.

A criminal justice major, he is second on the squad in scoring with 28 points (24 goals, 4 assists) and has 105 career points (79-26).

BABSON PARK, Mass. — Junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) scored a season high 10 points with four goals and six assists to lead visiting Western New England College to an impressive 16-7 victory over Babson College in the Pilgrim League opener for both teams.

Senior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) and freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) each added four goals and an assist as the Golden Bears improved their record to 5-4.

Leading 8-6 at half-time, WNEC outscored Babson by an 8-1 margin in the second half.

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.Chris Meade scored the game-winner with 1:14 remaining in the second overtime session to give Wesleyan University a hard-earned 7-6 victory over visiting Western New England College.

"This was a great game to watch, play, and coach," said WNEC coach John Klepacki. "As a young team, we gained some valuable experience against a quality opponent."

Senior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) scored two goals for the Golden Bears giving him 100 points for his career. Junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) added two assists.

Le Gette's second goal with 3:21 left in the fourth period gave WNEC (4-4) its only lead of the game at 6-5, but the Cardinals (6-1) came back to knot the contest with 1:52 remaining in regulation.

CJ ANNUNCIATA NAMED WESTERN NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE MALE ATHLETE-OF-THE-WEEK

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) was honored Tuesday (Mar. 30) as the Western New England College Male Athlete-of-the-Week.

Annunciata scored 16 points (8 goals, 8 assists) in three contests. He had five goals and three assists in a 12-11 win at New England College along with two goals and three assists in a 13-6 victory over Gordon College. Annunciata also scored a goal with two assists in an 18-9 loss at No. 17 Tufts University.

A sport management major, Annunciata leads the Golden Bears in scoring with 24 points (13 goals, 11 assists) in five games.

Sophomore Brett Searing (Skaneateles, NY) also scored twice while junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) chipped in with a goal and two assists.

Junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) contributed two goals and three assists while freshman Devin Howton (Olney, MD) added two goals and an assist for the Golden Bears who improved their record to 3-2.

Gordon, who defeated WNEC last year 10-5, took an early 2-0 lead before the Golden Bears ran off five straight goals for a 5-2 lead midway through the second period.

Juniors Jon Harshaw and Dan Mitchell (both from Newtown Square, PA) each had two goals and an assist for the Fighting Scots (0-3).

Junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) contributed a goal and assist while freshman goalie Matt Pendelbury (North Hunterdon, NJ) made 12 saves as the Golden Bears improved their record to 2-1.

WNEC led 5-2 at half-time and 6-5 after three periods before breaking the game open with four goals in the final 15 minutes.

TROY, N.Y. — Senior Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) scored a game high three goals, but it wasn't enough as Western New England College dropped a 12-6 decision at No. 18 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) and freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) each contributed a goal and assist for the Golden Bears who fell to 1-1. Freshman goalie Matt Pendelbury (North Hunterdon, NJ) compiled 20 saves.

WNEC trailed 3-1 after the first period and 7-2 at intermisision as the Red Hawks took control in their season opener.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Freshman Michael McGeoghan (Feeding Hills, MA) scored four goals with two assists and freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) contributed three goals in their collegiate debuts as Western New England College posted an easy 17-2 victory over visiting Daniel Webster College in the season opener for both teams.

Junior Pat Matthews (Middle Island, NY) and freshman Paul Weinecke (Baltimore, MD) each added two goals.

Also scoring their first collegiate goals were junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA), and freshmen Rob Ostrem (West Islip, NY), Devin Howton (Olney, MD), and Jason Whitehouse (Gilmanton, NH).

Twelve players scored points for the Golden Bears who led 8-0 after the opening quarter and 12-0 at half-time.

This was the first meeting between the teams in men's lacrosse. Daniel Webster is coached by former Golden Bears standout Rick McKenzie '85 who has directed the Eagles in all five of their varsity seasons.

WNEC OPENS SEASON SATURDAY AGAINST DANIEL WEBSTER COLLEGE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Western New England College' opens its 2004 season against first-time opponent Daniel Webster College at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 28) at Golden Bear Stadium.

WNEC hopes to challenge for the Pilgrim League championship with 16 returning returnees. There also could be as many as six freshmen in the starting lineup this season. Last year the Golden Bears posted an 8-9 record, repeated as Pilgrim League West Division champions, and finished second in the Pilgrim League Tournament.

"We have added much needed depth and talent to the program," says third-year coach John Klepacki. "I feel that we are beginning to reach the level of ability needed to make us one of the top programs in the region. The experience that this young team gained last year in reaching the league championship has sparked a passion to get even better."

WNEC graduated two of its top three scorers from a year ago, but have a pair of outstanding performers in co-captains, senior midfielder Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) and junior midfielder Pat Matthews (Middle Island, NY). Le Gette, an All-Pilgrim League performer, led the squad in scoring last year with 37 points (26 goals, 11 assists) while Matthews contributed 30 points (20-10).

Senior defender Kevin Grealis (Springfield, MA) is another top player.

Klepacki noted that an improved schedule that featured games against seven Top 20 teams a year ago would help his team in the long run.

"With 16 games on our schedule, our philosophy is to play through the growing pains and reward as many players as possible with much deserved game experience", he pointed out.

Among the newcomers to watch are junior CJ Annuniciata (Waltham, MA) and freshmen Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) and Rob Ostrem (West Islip, NY) at attack, Nick Doherty (Kennebunk, ME), Devin Howton (Olney, MD), Mike McGeoghan (Feeding Hills, MA), and Jason Whitehouse (Gilmanton, NH) at midfield, Jed Brown (Kennebunk, ME) and Joe Di Apice (Farmingdale, NY) at defense, and goalie Matt Pendlebury (North Hunterdon, NJ).

Western New England College will visit Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday, March 3, and meet New England College on March 9 in Manchester, New Hampshire before heading south to play Roger Williams College on March 14 and McDaniel College (Md.) on March 16, both contests in Sanford, Florida.

WNEC opens its home season with Gordon College on March 24.

Items of Interest: Brown, Doherty, and sophomore defenseman Kevin Batson (Kennebunk, ME) were all teammates at Kennebunk High School in MaineÉ Jason Whitehouse's twin brother Justin Whitehouse is a defenseman for the Golden Bears. Both played on the WNEC football team last fallÉ Ostrem was the fourth leading scorer (nine points) on the Golden Bears' men's soccer team this past fall.
